Overview
An inter-dimensional ship has settled on an alien landscape. It is 75 feet long, two levels, and situated in an alien world of mud caves and interactive, color changing “trees”. Once a seafaring vessel, it is now a hodgepodge of transport devices and retro-fitted technologies. The ship’s interior speaks of the rich history of the ship and its passengers, a history that is discoverable through a vast fictional archive presented throughout the ship. The project incorporates video, live performance and extensive interactive elements, to submerge the audience into a fully-operating fictional world.
Goals
We were invited to create an installation in the 6000 square foot gallery at the Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe. We were given complete artistic freedom!
Process
The Due Return was a creative collaboration between about 45 artists, with help from about 70 more. Meow Wolf art collective has built more than 15 such exhibitions but The Due Return is by far the largest and most ambitious.
