Client: Solis Apartments

Overview

Tetra is a permanent installation that we created to be a beacon for the front entrance of the Solis apartment complex in Suwanee, GA. The project is an assembly of tetrahedral pyramids stacked upon each other to reach a human scale. Each of the pyramids have a reflective dichroic film that reflects and refracts the light in a multitude of ways.This gives the person passing by a unique perspective of the space as they move around the piece.

Goals

The goals for this project were to create a piece that allowed people to play with the reflection and refraction of light through their movement and angle in which they view or photograph the piece. We want the piece to spark spontaneous conversation and engagement through its manipulation of light. So the piece is not just a background for a selfie, but a hub for community activity and social interaction through the play of light.

Process

We worked with Terwillinger Pappas to create a piece that fit with the theme of the building being focused on the sun. This helped drive us to create a piece that would begin to manipulate the light and create not just a sculpture for the building, but a piece that people could engage with and share as a landmark and identity for their building.
