Overview

I was commissioned by Rick Warren at Saddleback Church to create the 15 Stations of the Cross at their satellite retreat location, Rancho Capistrano in San Juan Capistrano. Each mosaic was created a 3'x4', (with the exception of the Last Supper), either landscape or portrait, using a variety of media – ceramic tile, relief-sculpted cast glass, stone, marble, etc.

Goals

The goal was to visually tell the story of Christ's journey to the cross in a serene setting above natural lake where parishioners can visit, meditate, and experience. The integration is necessary to present the inspirational imagery for public viewing.

Process

I first read over the pertinent passages in the Bible to get in touch with the best way to tell the story of Jesus' Journey to the Cross. I worked very closely with Jamin Goggin, formerly the pastor at the Rancho Capistrano Retreat, to be sure to authenticate the imagery as fully as possible.
