Overview

SPEAKER, 77 1/2″ x 101 1/2″ x 15″, ink on paper, dye on cast aluminum, enamel on aluminum. Commissioned by law firm for specific site (elevator landing) and to be part of extensive corporate art collection. This is the only artwork in this room and fits snugly on the right hand wall exiting the elevator.

Goals

Project used both aesthetic and conceptual devices. Primary elements include calligraphic and symbolic images indicating writing (or "speaking" in this case). As language is the lawyers main trade the images, title and location of the speakers head (off the format and below the viewers waist) a sense of ironic humor pervades the work.

Process

Lewis Tarver was the main contact. Mr. Tarver was the curator of this collection of some 60 contemporary texas artworks. I was given a budget and free reign.
