Overview
The project's location in Central Florida informed the overall design intent and artwork concept in this renovation of the Sheraton Vistana Resort's Welcome Center. We chose to reference the location by highlighting the Lake Region and by using natural and reclaimed materials throughout the artwork design.
Goals
The design intent was to implement and highlight the use of natural or reclaimed materials as key elements in the commissioned artwork while paying homage to the location of the property in the Lake Region of Central Florida.
Process
The designer, the art consultants and the artists' respective talents really came together to ensure these ideas of using natural and reclaimed materials would dovetail in elegant, artful and engaging works of art. As an example, the Lake Maps pieces behind the reception desks involved a team that included a cartographer, woodworker, metalsmith and a large format printing specialist to bring the concept of layering a variety of materials to create two large scale topographical map artworks. The final, finished pieces are ultimately a collage of interesting materials and artists' ideas at their very root.
Additional Information
Projects that impose what sometimes initially may seem like a limitation, (the use of natural or reclaimed materials), often ultimately prove to inspire the purest of creative resources from a talented team.
