Goals

Dr. Rayburn Barton had plans created for a Zen Garden as a gift to the university, however these plans were rejected because there were fears of attracting snakes. So his next idea was to start a Sculpture Garden.

Process

Dr. Rayburn Barton, who has collected my work, visited my sculpture garden in November 2019. He made intial selections. The next step was to get representatives from the University to approve his choices. Anna Ponder Ph.D Vice Chancellor and a professor in the Graphic Arts Department at the Beaufort Campus visited in early December. They approved two of the four sculptures Dr. Barton liked, and they selected three additional sculptures they wanted to have in the sculpture garden. University Chancellor Dr. Panu approved the project in mid-December of 2019. The next step was to develop a plan for engineering, select locations, and finishing up the structural details the mechanical engineer recommend. All plans were finalized on March 5, 2020 and the Covid-19 shut down the University as well as the state and the Country. the next week. I was told that no one was allowed on the campus. The project was green lighted in early May and I am happy to say that the installation went as smoothly as any installation I have ever done. By Wed., May 27, 2020 6pm all work is in place and even the landscaping and mulch made it look like the sculptures have always been where they now stand.
