Overview

The 10,000 pound sculpture, designed, fabricated and installed by Gordon Huether Studio is made of stainless steel and native cedar timbers. The amphitheater sculpture takes its aesthetic cue from the landscape design and blurs the line between art, sculpture and landscape. Fifty inset LED lights are embedded into the curved stainless pipes, creating a beautiful glow for evening use.

Goals

The location for the art installation includes a new public plaza and landscape area within the Miramar development. The artwork was conceived as an icon as well as a functional shade structure and performance place. The piece was specifically designed for this plaza and installed as such.

Process

The collaboration for this project consisted of design collaboration between the artist, the developer, Structural engineer, civil engineer and electrical engineer and landscape architect; in addition specialized oversized international transportation experts and heavy hauling crane service were part of the team. Furthermore, the fabrication process utilized a specialized installing crew on-site to install integrated lighting and concrete pedestal attachments.
