Overview
I was asked to develop a timeline for RLI insurance company. The wall they designated for the project was in an atrium. The wanted the piece to be positioned above the glass railing and to be approximately 10 ft wide. It needed to have a text panel for each decade starting in the 1960's and go to the 2050's.
Goals
The artwork needed to fit in with the recent renovation of the corporate headquarters. It needed to be stainless steel and use the corporate typeface.
Process
As the artist I designed several configurations options for layout and how the timeline could segmented and read. I worked as the artist and designer with a marketing communications manager. She met with the corporate design team and copywriters. I designed using their imput and then fabricates the timeline.
Additional Information
The timeline is be updated into the 2050's. I had to find a process for updating the text that would still be viable in 4 years. I presented several different ways the text could be applied. In the end they selected a laser etched anodized metal panel.
