Sea Walls Boston

Overview

“Rising Tides” was completed as part of Sea Walls Boston Mural Festival. It represents the possible sea level at 0.5 through 2 degrees above the current global temperature, according to data from climatecentral.org. It also depicts the Salt marsh sparrow, a bird endemic to the East coast and in danger of extinction due to rising sea levels.

The wall is 123 feet long by about 14 feet high and was completed by myself and my assistant in about 4 days. It sits along the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway in East Boston where hundreds of pedestrians and commuters see it every week.

Goals

The goal of this festival was to raise awareness in the East Boston area about how residents and communities will be impacted by sea level rise brought on by climate change. My mural depicts

Process

I worked closely with the Sea Walls team to come up with a theme and design. Once my design was approved, we coordinated the lift rental and volunteer assistant schedule. We also collaborated on a variety of media to raise awareness, including photos, interviews, and videos.
