Overview
Radiance is the focal point for a newly constructed exterior courtyard of a mixed-use residential building in Koreatown, Los Angeles. The simple yet visually complex form is inspired by Korean fan art while also exhibiting a lively color scheme reminiscent of the beautiful LA sunsets. The transparency of the art and reflections of light with its high quality materials provide a liveliness to the space while also engaging occupants as they transition through the lushly planted courtyard. Dimensions: 8' x 8' x 8', Materials: polished stainless steel tube, powder coated metal panels, lighting
Goals
It was important for the art to be integral with the courtyard landscape, provide an uplifting experience, and contain a level of transparency. This in combination with Korean cultural influence were instrumental in the project's design outcome. As with many of my projects, it was important for the work to be both functional and purposeful.
Process
I collaborated with the developer, art curator, architect, and contractor throughout my process. Careful consideration was made to the color scheme as it was important for the colors of the art to echo the highlights of color found throughout the remainder of the building.
