Overview
The Elgin Recreation Centre wanted to enliven the Children’s Pool using a tropical theme. Four 8′ colorful exotic bird silhouettes were created and suspended among 24′ – 34′ sweeping swags incorporating an abstracted feather design. A tropical canopy playfully floats above delighted pool goers.
Goals
The goals for this project were to incorporate artwork into the ceiling area that complemented the existing water features and colors in the pool area, while also enhancing the idea of a tropical paradise. The project needed to be maintenance free and able to withstand the conditions of the pool space. SolarMax flagcloth has proven efficient and reliable in these environments. The bird silhouettes and sweeping swags work well with the water features in the pool to create a harmonious and playful environment.
Process
We were contacted as the centre was under construction and asked to create for five spaces, one of which was the Children's Pool. Many individuals were working simultaneously on different aspects of the building and constant communication was necessary as to specifications in each space. A comprehensive whole was the desired outcome and our designs were adapted to adjustments during construction ranging from size specifications to installation details and procedures.
Additional Information
Although large in scope, each area of the centre has its own character and personality. The Children's Pool continues to be a favorite.
