Overview

This magical column of light, Post Liminal is a minimalist sculpture by day, with glistening white sides and aluminum angles that reflect through prism rods. At night, different colors of LEDs aimed into the aluminum are beamed and blended through the prisms for a dramatic, jewel-like effect.

Goals

I envision these columns as multiples, in a garden, on either side of a gateway, a long walkway, or other venue. I also envision it as a cluster of three, each one a different height.

Process

My assistant on this project was Olivier Odom, and together we hand-soldered the LEDs, bent the aluminum and and polycarbonate to house the LEDs, and mounted the sheeting on steel panels. The steel panels and stainless tops and bottoms were made by Alpha Steel in Brooklyn, NY.
