Overview

The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic – the European Art Center in Białystok is currently the largest artistic institution in north-eastern Poland and the most modern center of cultural life in this part of Europe. The building was designed by the studio leaded by Prof. Dr. arch. Marek Budzyński.
Music notes of works by Krzysztof Penderecki, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Stanisław Moniuszko and W. A. Mozart were pressed into the thick relief glasses.
The artistic glass heads on the columns refer to the Orthodox churches characteristic of the region.

Goals

The main goal of the whole interior and exterior glass art compositions is to integrate the music with the architecture by creating large scale kiln-formed casted glass panels.

Process

Thanks to cooperation started in 2005 at the early stage, according to the original project by Prof. dr arch. Marek Budzyński and mgr inż. arch. Krystyna Ilmurzyńska, it became possible to create artistic glassworks by Tomasz Urbanowicz.
Two artistic glass panels hanging over the Odessa Steps created by Tomasz Urbanowicz inspired by the original sketches - music records of Professor Krzysztof Penderecki.
