Client: Marriott Renaissance Hotel
Location: New York City, NY, United States
Completion date: 2015
Artwork budget: $4,000
The piece is made of colored pencils adhered to a custom built, painted wood panel 4′ x 8′ long.
The designers wanted artwork displayed throughout the entire hotel. All the work has edgy, urban, fashion oriented elements to reference the surrounding NYC fashion district and art center. Many artists and craftspeople executed works that ranged from one of a kind artwork, to custom metal handrails and bathroom mirrors.
The designer had loose perimeters for this particular piece. My only instruction was that the work was to be made out of colored pencils, and the overall color scheme should be blue. Originally they wanted something 3D, and then the location changed. I came up with the pixilated NYC skyline idea, and everyone seemed to enjoy the concept.
