Overview
This elephant is in sitting-position, a rather difficult anatomical portrayal in sculpture, she is 28” tall, reclaimed and fabricated steel, welded with green marble eyes.
Goals
The commission was for a mother-to-be. I wanted the “patient matriarch” to be conveyed in the pose of the elephant. She is sitting and looking fierce. A sentinel to watch over her future child.
Process
Lots and lots of elephant anatomy and research. They are a strange, yet, beautiful animal, it was important to express the mysticism of the creature.
