Overview
Presented with a 104 ft. circumference by 25 ft. high raw concrete column in a prominent patient entry area, the designer and our client procured the services of Art Initiative to create an original painting on the column to bring dynamic color and lively composition to an otherwise nondescript, dimly lit, unconditioned space.
Goals
The overall goal for this monumental painting was to create an uplifting, inspiring, and colorful focal piece that could be viewed and enjoyed from every angle, both inside the lobby area, and outside in an unconditioned space used primarily by vehicles for patient drop-off.
Process
Art Initiative worked with Atlanta artist, Ryan Coleman and his gallery Sandler Hudson to commission the largest piece the artist had ever painted. The client, Northside Hospital selected Ryan's work for the column commission based on his beautiful, to-scale maquette presentation.
Additional Information
In this particular instance, the magic of what we all do as designers, artists, advisors and clients came together in a truly spectacular feat of grace and beauty. The artist, who once worked as an assistant to the artist Jeff Koons, & whose father had been an animator for Disney, deeply understood the significance of the artwork he was creating in an emotionally charged environment where color, composition, and sheer brilliance could truly transform those who experience the piece. It was an honor to be a part of this important and absolutely magical project.
