Client: Distinctive Art Source

Overview

This 40″ x 40″ batik was commissioned for the Visitor Elevator Lobby on the First Floor. I include an image of the batik in process. I begin with white cotton fabric and use wax to resist dye in the traditional batik process, with my own techniques added. When it is completed, it is stretched and framed with plexiglass. Each piece is original and I do not produce multiples.

Goals

Water is a healing element and this batik is meant to contribute to the evidence-based design of the medical center.

Process

The client contacted me and requested a piece of art similar to one of my batiks that is in another medical center. Because the client was familiar with my work, I had a good idea of what was expected and was able to fulfill the commission to the client's satisfaction.
