Overview

Namungona Children's Art Center (NCAC) has staged an exhibition of over 100 artworks by children at Nommo Gallery in Kampala which is the National Art Gallery of Uganda. NCAC was founded in 2008 by Uganda Art Consortium which provides free childrens art workshops in low income neighborhoods and art therapy for HIV AIDS patients.

Goals

All the artworks in the exhibition were created by kids in our ongoing workshops where over 5,000 children have received art training in the past 10 years.

Process

Project directors in Uganda are James Nsamba and Farouk Mukwaya who work closely with Tom Herriman and Rees Clark on the U.S. side in coordinating and building the program. Funds to support the project are raised through donations and by the sale of artwork by professional Ugandan artists who are members of Uganda Art Consortium including Yusuf Ssali, Mathias Tusiime, Kaspa Kasambeko, Charles Mbazira and Kizito Fred Kakinda.

Additional Information

The Uganda artists who are members of Uganda Art Consortium donate their time to conduct children's workshops and art therapy for HIV-AIDS patients. In addition they support the project by donating 50% of the proceeds from sales of their own artwork. U.S. sales of artwork are conducted through frequent exhibitions and online at ugandart.com.
