Overview

A Garden scape of fantasy foliage and flowers found in the living wall of a botanical conservatory. All glassware is blown glass made in a traditional Venetian style of glassblowing while the bases are ceramic planter boxes, steel fabricated base, and/or wood. Surrounding is potted pines, tropical foliage and cactus. Glass sizes vary per sculpture.

Goals

The goals were to create an imaginary botanical series "native" to the plants found in the conservatory while using the extreme skills and talents of the glassblowers to create a delicate balance of design, color and function.

Process

The collaboration began with a series of conversations that incorporated specific living plants found on location. From dessert succulents to pines, the goal was to create fantasy plants that reflected the environment while creating interest and intrigue to look deeper into the plantscape.

Additional Information

Each sculpture was created specifically for the living plant scape that surrounded it. We looked at texture of leaves, sunlight coming thru the greenhouse, and evening lighting to create an atmosphere of mythical proportions for this installation.
