Overview
Took an out of date master bath and transformed it into a transitional spa retreat. It was a nice footprint to work with, however we did add 3'x6' to the shower area by borrowing space from an under utilized sitting area situated behind bathroom. This left plenty of space for a computer area and a larger walk-in shower with niche.
Goals
The artwork was the creative process of direction and rhythm within the space. This is shown using horizontal lines in woodwork, cabinetry, Allure Shades, and flooring. In the shower the focus is shifted to the directional tile work - changing to vertical runs of linear mixed mosaics to symbolize water.
Process
The collaborators on this project were with the cabinet company, Phil's Cabinets. They constructed the vanity that was designed by Hofmann Design specifically for this space and John Austin,a local glass artisan, that special ordered and installed the water glass in the rear of the shower. This attribute is not only beautiful, it gives another dimension to the space and fills the shower with natural light from the office.
Additional Information
Designing this project was a true test of my creativity. The goal was to create something earthy, yet fresh and modern on a budget. The end result uses natural slate, shaved pebbles, mosaic glass, stone and metals, that are mixed with java finished maple wood species and contrasted with bright whites in the plumbing and Silestone surfaces. We hope that when you see and are in this space you feel restful and rejuvenated.
