Overview

Aluminum and stainless steel, 11’ x 8.5’ x 10’. Located in downtown Chicago, IL below State and Lake El Station. Commissioned by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events for the Year of Public Art, $25,000 budget. Sculpture integrates iconic “C” typography and stylized train tracks to form a gestalt-inspired globe (as well as spherical shapes from multiple angles), signifying Chicago as a worldwide city . 2017.

Goals

Project was conceived for Chicago's 42nd Ward with a variety of potential placement sites. Alderman Reilly had recently spearheaded a small recreational area, Gateway to the Loop, and a permanent public sculpture seemed ideal. Notably, "Loop Da Loop" is situated in a manner where multiple pedestrians and travelers notice it, cementing its future role in the overall landscape of the area.
