Resin sculpture 17x14x58 inches

Lila was born from the love of a couple. The sculpture was commissioned as a husband’s birthday present to his wife, herself an artist painter.

The commissioner asked me to create a sculpture of a woman painting. His wife is a painter and he wanted to immortalize her passion through sculpture. It was a present for her birthday, which was only 5 weeks away.
He sent me some pictures of his wife's face and artwork so I could get inspirations from her actual personality and taste.
The commissioner had chosen a specific space in the house where the sculpture would sit. That information helped determine what would be the right size, posture and texture for the sculpture.
We discussed closely for the patina and I made different tests.

The Leonard Tourné Gallery contacted me and asked me if I would be able to do a sculpture of 50 inches in less than 1 month in any kind of material.
The subject matter interested me deeply and I felt this project very well; I’m a also a painter, therefore creating a woman painting was easy for me to conceive.
The commissioner loved my existing work and totally trusted on the future quality of my sculpture. I first completed a drawing of my idea, and he agreed right away. Then he gave me total freedom to express myself.
I sculpted first a piece of Styrofoam and then I put some resin on top of it. I painted it in bronze color.
You can see more detail of the process on the video.
