Overview
Mrs Malcolmson had seen my work over the years in different locations and was attracted to it. She and her husband were building a very special medium size house and wanted my work in a few different locations.
Goals
The house is situated in a mountain desert setting with a lot of light flooding the house. Creating many shadows and keeping the weight of the piece light (and the color) were essential to this project.
Process
The client visited my studio and I visited the site. There was luckily lots of time available. I supplied the client with images of a many mock-ups till we focused on a particular arrangement of the bleached Madrone panels panels. But in the process even that changed, till I arrived at the final configuration.
Additional Information
These panels were cut from large blocks of Pacific Madrone, are then slowly dried and allowed to assume their shape, sandblasted and finally bleached. Each panel is individually hung, allowing them to 'float'. Panels come in many different shapes and sizes and can be organized to fit small and large spaces.
