Overview
Light Forest is an interactive art installation exhibited at ‘Illuminus Boston Arts Festival 2014’. It responds to people's location and movement and changes in forms and colors. A field comprised of individual ribbons is connected to a network of motors, which are triggered by a webcam detecting people's physical presence. Each ribbon spins in slightly different speed and as a whole scenery; Light Forest creates a series of waves floating in space. Light projection illuminates rotating ribbons and create dynamic optical aesthetic.
Goals
‘Illuminus Boston’ was a Boston’s first free night time festival to provoke, inspire and celebrate creativity in art, culture and community in the city of Boston. The committee wanted art installations for this festival to transform Boston’s streetscapes into a vibrant and energetic urban canvas. As a part of this event, Light Forest provided the public with an interactive art installation to encourage all the people present to not only appreciate art works but actively participate in the festival.
Process
Most of process of Light Forest including design, fabrication (wood works and on-site installation), projection images and programming was produced by our team. However, our team closely worked with the committee of ‘Illuminus Boston Arts Festival’ to ensure projection equipment, location and sponsored budget.
