Overview
Huether created these suspended sculptures exclusively for the Archer Hotel in Manhattan, NY. With its world renowned taste makers in fashion and fine art, its museums, historical ateliers and its gallery scene, New York City has long been an art mecca and Archer is delighted to be a part of it.
Goals
Archer New York - the first in a collection of boutique hotels, opened in Midtown Manhattan in May 2014 and features Lichtregen [German: Rain of Light] by Gordon Huether. The suspended sculpture of individual acrylic "necklaces" bring a distinctly feminine touch to the hotel's chic industrial spaces dotted with Chesterfield-style sofas, exposed brick and wood-paneled millwork.
Process
It was important for the project team to commission artwork that complements their existing collection and also pushes its boundaries to explore new territories.
Additional Information
The hotel's carefully curated experience is a reflection of Archer - storyteller and adventurer, connoisseur and consummate host. The 22-story, new-build hotel features David Burke fabrick, a first-floor restaurant offering a menu of modern American small plates and Spyglass Rooftop Bar, a classic, all-season escape with breathtaking views of the Empire State Building. Archer met Gordon while visiting and making plans for the proposed Archer Napa Hotel and the next thing you know, a very special delivery arrived in New York.
