Overview

Completed in October of 2014, the Art Collection at Levi’s® Stadium celebrates the 49ers legendary history, the organization’s current success and the vibrant culture of the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Goals

Guests will encounter larger than life portraits of 49ers greats, alongside charcoal sketches that celebrate notable regional figures such as Steinbeck and Kerouac. Visitors may marvel over pieces from the Ranchos of the Santa Clara Valley and the timeless psychedelics of the storied Fillmore Music Hall. The collection has been crafted to engage and provoke everyone from the casual fan to the art aficionado. The mix of art and photography and high-end wall treatments creates multiple levels of interest. The level of effort in selecting each piece of photography is
evident in the wide subject matter and players represented within the collection. Vintage game program covers from the 1940s through 1960s were reproduced on canvas and paper creating an interesting visual experience in the office corridor. The collection encompasses more than 700 pieces of photography, over 200 pieces of original artwork and approximately 20,000 square feet of custom designed wall treatments. Many of which have not been seen for over 50 years. Photography and art were combined in several thematic installations, including vignettes of their Super Bowls, greatest players and regional studies. Additional wall treatments paid homage to agriculture, the regions wineries and 49ers greats both past and present.

Process

The art collection highlights a diverse group of 23 local artists and includes pieces that have personal ties to the 49ers organization. A national call to artists allowed Sports & The Arts to engage a wide variety of the art community to gather a unique and vibrant collection of artists that excel in a variety of distinct mediums including sculpture, mixed media, collage, stencils, found objects and traditional oil and acrylic on canvas. Collaborations were fostered between an array of sources including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Santa Rose and Sacramento History Centers, History San Jose!, and the San Francisco Public Library. 23 Artists contributed to the Levi's Stadium Art Collection. Featured Artists are: Bart Forbes, Tom Mosser, Samantha Wendell, Derek Gores, Frank Ryan, Milton Bowens, Nick Brown, Lynn Hanson, John Robertson & Stanley Silver.

Additional Information

The exclusive Citrix Owners Club was transformed into an art gallery featuring at least one piece from every artist in the Art Collection. Bart Forbes created two pieces of Joe Montana and Colin Kaepernick. The Collection showcases local artists excelling in various mediums including found objects, as shown below in Jenny Kompolt’s Mining Tin installation. This piece was created from authentic mining tins sourced all throughout Northern California. Levi’s Stadium offered each suite holder their choice of different images for the wall graphic in their suite, which SATA suggested and executed.
