Overview

The movement and sophistication of the water feature “Leaves” creates an environment that arouses the senses. The 50-foot-long sculpture was created to allow water to flow in and among the aluminum – colored shapes. This installation is 15 feet tall by 50 feet wide, and is incorporated into the overall landscape design.

Goals

The goal for this installation is to create a serene and calming environment. I wanted to being in elements of nature, in an abstract way. Each piece of aluminum is sculpted into a shape that is indicative of a leaf. It was important to me to create each shape as a unique and individual part, and bend each one to create dimension throughout the piece.

Process

I worked with the landscape architect to create a concept that brought together art and nature. It was important to me to incorporate water into this feature, because water has a calming presence, and I wanted to integrate that peacefulness into the sculpture. Each leaf was sculpted to a unique shape, and was hand-painted with a weather resistant paint.
