Overview
The one acre site in Okhla, New Delhi allowed approx 65,000 sq. ft. of built-up area over 4 levels. Since the current space requirement could be accommodated in half the space, it was decided to lease out the balance area for a period of 6 years.
The entire facility is an exercise in combining principles of vaastu with contemporary design ideas. The solid front facade consists of 2 curvilinear planes. The entrance is in the form of clear glass enabling the curvilinear planes to penetrate the interior thus combining the exterior & interior forms seamlessly.
Goals
The fabulous art collection of the owners form a major design parameter. The soft interior palette compliments and provides a perfect back drop to the art.
Process
Spaces are created for art and not the other way around. A Senior artists were commissioned to create art and sculptures for the various areas created. This is evidence in the pictures attached.A large ‘tree of life’ – a cast bronze by Radha Krishnan fills the reception. A scenic elevator looks onto a dynamic central court with zen like landscaping the gives natural light to the interior spaces.
Additional Information
Every project is a challenge. It is important to understand the ethos of the client and ensure that the same is translated into built form.
