Overview
Larry Cook Jr. is a conceptual and installation artist who employs aspects of pictorial realism and fantasy to explore broader issues of status, individualism, and realism. For this project with the Frederick Arts council Cook created one of his signature backdrop installations for Sky Stage. Cook often features images of idyllic locations in unexpected settings, pointing toward our embrace of prepackaged dreams and commercially generated mythscapes. The artist has exhibited work at the National Gallery of Art, MOMA, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, and the Baltimore Museum of Art, among other institutions.
Goals
”I’m inspired by the unique setting for this installation and have chosen a backdrop that transports us in a time when we can’t travel like we might want to,” - Larry Cook
