Overview
This 10 ft x 7 ft mosaic was commissioned for the lobby of the Heart Pavilion at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, PA. It is comprised of 33 individual panels. There are 12 picture panels with the remainder being decorative border components. The central image is the hospital’s campus which is surrounded by vignettes that speak to the different facets of the Lankenau’s story. This mosaic was made using ceramic tile, hand blown glass shards and lapidary.
Goals
The goal in this project was to tell visitors that story of the hospital. Images were sent around the hospital community in order to get feedback. The design was then developed accordingly.
Process
I created a series of "mosaic" drawings which were then refined and ultimately used as templates for creating the actual artwork.
Additional Information
The mosaic speaks to doctors, medical innovation, nurses, volunteers and researchers to capture the overall sense of the institution's mandate.
