Client: Kaiser Permanente Vallejo

Overview

Real Time is a tribute to the history of Kaiser Permanente’s presence in Vallejo, as well as a tribute to the success of their medical program. Real Time is constructed from two mirrors 28' and 25' high, tilted back to reflect and frame the sky. The sculpture is a meditative piece offering the observer an opportunity to reconnect with the natural world. On the opposite side of the mirrors is a photographic representation of Kaiser’s history, including images of doctors and nurses in WWII, Kaiser’s first logo, and patients who overcame medical obstacles thanks to Kaiser’s healthcare.

Goals

The primary goal was to create a meditative work that would not only stand as a statement about Kaiser's "thrive" policy, but to design a project that actually functions as an active meditative opportunity. As part of the piece, three stone benches are provided to invite people to stop and re connect with the natural world. On the opposite side is a photographic history of Kaiser Permanente.

Process

Most of the collaboration consisted of working with Kaiser management on the composition of the photographic history of Kaiser.
