Overview

This life sized bronze statue of John Baptist de La Salle stands in front of a large arch monument to de La Salle at Lewis University, in Romeoville, IL.

Goals

The goals for this monument were to create a platform for ritual and education that engages the students of Lewis University, and inspires them to learn and interact with de La Salle's message of education and service. I worked within the parameters set in place to create an engaging portrait of de La Salle that embodied the monument's message and was in harmony with its architectural presence.

Process

I worked with the faculty at Lewis University to create a unique figurative sculpture that met the criteria of a concept that had been approved by a committee tasked with governing the design of the de La Salle monument. Through meetings and detailed concept renderings I achieved the design of the sculpture my client wanted and gave them confidence in what to expect of the final product in bronze.
