Overview

Jet Trails. Inspired by the mottled patterns of jet exhaust across a blue sky, the artwork creates a soothing environment for those standing in security lines, screens the sun, and engages the connecting passengers walking by. Located in Terminal One, designed by architect Helmut Jahn. Blown glass, acid etched, vitreous enamels, fired, laminated. 50’ x12’.

Goals

The airport wanted to screen the “back door” view out this window with something placed on the floor. After closer examination it was determined that it would take considerably more glass to do that than the budget allowed, and it would be better to address the glare problem and the security screening passengers anyway.

Process

I discussed the placement of the artwork extensively to arrive at the best solution, and how to best address the psychological situation with the security screening queue. It was also a challenge how to mount the artwork on the face of the curtain wall. Fabricated at Derix Glasstudios.
