Client: Private Residence

Overview

The ground floor of this residence had very little light and average height ceilings. The large space was divided into a formal dining area and a more casual living space. Artist Rebecca Spivack designed a plaster treatment integrating the colors of the local Jerusalem stone in a horizontally patterened ombreed treatment with a reflective pearlescent topcoat. This enabled the artist to both create the illusion of more height and to capitalize on the available and ambient light, striking an aesthetic balance between the traditional and more contemporary elements
of the home.

Goals

The goal was to create a warm, enveloping plaster finish for the ground floor public rooms, integrating the building material, Jerusalem Stone, with architectural details and the client's furnishings.

Process

Another major goal was to honor the spirit of this 1932 landmarked residence designed by German Bauhaus architect, Richard Kaufmann who first brought modern architecture to Israel. Robert Couturier Interiors did the entire interior architecture of this remodel along with the interior design.
