Overview

This Ned Kahn-designed Inverted Lake project for Daniels Corporation is in Toronto’s East Bayfront. The area beneath the Inverted Lake piece is a plaza between two buildings. The area required a feature to disrupt the wind tunnel effect. Ned Kahn’s design acts as a wind break but also adds to the space and enchants the placemaking experience. It is comprised of approximately 26,000 flappers suspended on over 4.4 kilometers of cable that are supported by metal-fabricated tress. Heavy Industries worked with Ned to support his design through project development and helped to realize the ultimate installed piece.

Goals

The area required a feature to disrupt the wind tunnel effect. Ned Kahn's design acts as a wind break but also adds to the space and enchants the placemaking experience.

Process

Daniels partnered with Ned Kahn and Heavy Industries to develop this project. Daniels had a need to break the wind tunnel effect and turned to Ned Kahn to develop a concept that did just that. Ned worked with Heavy through project development including conceptual rendering, technical drawings and mock ups.
