Overview

Sculptural bronze trees create a dappled shade structure. Below is thirty-feet of seating and a large table for gathering. A low sinuous wall made of colored concrete, textured to resemble geology, backs a stage for community events on one side and thirty-feet of seating on the other. A large table inspired by the topology of the area encourages gathering. Integrated into the wall is a river-like plaque that tells the history of the area.

Goals

Bringing people to the downtown with artful seating and shade canopy was the goal of this artwork. The artists secondary goals was to remind people of the sycamore grove and creek that once occupied this site, and to tell the history of the area from Native Americans to farmers and now city center.

Process

The art was a collaboration with the City of Laguna Hills, art advisory committee, developer and the general contractor.
