Overview
“Friendala” is an artwork specially designed for the international Amsterdam Light Festival. Inspired by the main theme of the Festival that year ,”Friendship”, and the Mandala (indian symbol), it is a structure made of many illuminated rings hanging from both sides of a bridge, simulating a half Mandala that completes its shape by the reflection of the light in the water.
Goals
To create the better experience of light for the visitors of the Festival and to transform the winter nights and city landscape through the magic of light artworks.
Process
The creative and constructive process lasted several months, working hard from a long distance with the producers and technicians of the Festival. We flew to Amsterdam to perform the on-site assembly, y during a week long we were facing inclement weather and the difficulty of building something over the canals.
Additional Information
Light art for us, is a way to generate emotions by transforming light into a sensory experience, and Friendala is a good example of this. It is an invitation to dream by means of light, where different colors represent emotions and feelings like love, happiness, peace and friendship. Leds and dmx controller were the technology used for this installation. Around 100 illuminated rings work together in different groups. Each group has a color assigned according to a predefined sequence of moods and it´s changing every few minutes to create different atmospheres of light.
