Overview

22' x 6' x 6' Stainless steel.

Goals

The client is very involved in the use of genetics in medical research, and requested a double helix design for his ample estate in Greenwich, CT. Each stainless steel tube had to be precisely rolled in a double curve that would interplay with the other curved stainless steel tube.

Process

First the artist made a series of drawings and interpretations of a double helix. Some of the renderings were massive bronze pieces, and others bright and airy. The client liked the tubular stainless steel double helix concept. It was a challenge to get the two curved pieces to be identical in shape, but the artist found a fabricator in Vancouver, WA who could roll the curved sides. The whole work was shipped intact to Greenwich where it was installed using a large crane.
