This temporary, site-specific, outdoor installation titled Cumuli was created for WODA (Water) International, a project sponsored by the City of Wroclaw. My commission was coordinated by Marcin Wiktorski who served as curator/art consultant for WODA International. Cumuli were created from heat transfer printed and painted polyester monofilament mesh cut to shapes and suspended on steel cables. Overall dimensions were 90’x12’x5’.

Cumuli were installed in the center city Wroclaw, on a narrow street running through the complex of historic buildings in the middle of the main city square.
The challenge was to attach the structure safely without damaging walls and to visually compete with the abundant in the area colorful banners and advertisements. The theme of clouds has been a leading theme in my installation work at the time, for WODA International Cumuli were chosen to represent an element of water in the form of an aerosol - clouds.

The location of the artwork was determined late in the design process. It was planned for a center of a large city, to be visible, yet in a place that is relatively secluded, quiet and safe. It was installed right under the city mayor offices windows.

Additional Information

This project was a challenge, as there were strong upward drafts in the little street ending with an archway underneath the city hall. Drafts were causing Cumuli to roll up and tangle – it was a high maintenance project.
