Overview
Convergence is an icon of the Bloomington South Loop, a large-scale steel, glass and light sculpture in the center of the roundabout at Lindau Lane and 28th Avenue. A project realized by Sculptor James Brenner and The City of Bloomington.
Goals
This piece is inspired by three primary groups of people that make up the South Loop community: visitors, workers and residents. A landmark in a developing corridor that will intersect pedestrian, automotive and light rail traffic. As the space demands, the artwork will have a large scale, reaching 35 feet above street level with a 18 foot diameter ring shape. The sculpted glass in the artwork will twinkle as the sunlight passes through it in the daytime, and the fiber optic LED lightning will illuminate the form at night. The light will slowly and gradually transform from red to yellow to blue. These colors are important as they will represent each of the three primary demographics of the South Loop community; hotel and Mall of America visitors, workers in the surrounding businesses, and residents.
