Overview

Video Projection into the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadeloupe in the heart of Downtown Arts District Dallas. The video which contains abstract color combinations continuously merging, change the perception of space by addition to adding light and colors to a space for devotion and prayer. The video was also shown in the 55th Venice Biennale, 2013 as part of the exhibition Metamorphosis of the Virtual at Officina dell Zattere. 60 mins loop, silent version. Video title: Colour Synesthesia IV, 2013.

Goals

I was invited by Dallas Aurora - Convergence of Light, an electronic art exhibition held in Downtown Dallas to project my color video piece and transform the Cathedral as part of the multi site exhibition. The piece is not permanent, but the idea of integrating contemporary art into religious spaces is an area that is underutilized. An inspiration for this piece is Dan Flavin's Fluorescent light installation in an old church in Italy, commissioned by the local priest.

Process

Artist, festival team and Cathedral employees collaborated on the technical logistics and organization.
