Overview

The client’s for this piece wished to create a custom work for the main living space of their Manhattan loft. While the parameters were open to my artistic interpretation, they desired a work that would both communicate a sense of motion and integrate with the room’s existing color and material palette.

Process

After discussions with the clients about their desired goals for the project, I presented an array of sketches, samples and prototypes over the design development phase of the project. These reviews offered the opportunity for client feedback on the direction of the work. The work is made of digitally designed, machine stitched thread. The digital/mechanical process allows for samples of the work to be stitched, studied, and approved by the client during the design development phase.

Additional Information

The medium of the work is machine embroidered rayon thread on linen accented with hand embroidery. The individual frames are stained and stacked bamboo hoops. The areas of stitching are hatched at different pre-determined angles to reflect light in continually shifting patterns.
