Overview

“Family At Prayer” is a black granite stone sculpture commissioned for a school chapel. It measures 1.5m x 1.5m x3.5m height. It depicts a family of five human forms embracing each other in prayer. use of both traditional and modern stone carving techniques were employed.

Goals

First, the project was was to educate the students on the process of creating sculpture on site. Secondly, it is to motivate the community on the essence of prayer as well as a site for meditation. Touching the highly polished stone creates a feeling of calmness and peace

Process

First there was a call for artwork through my art collector, I made a proposal and design which was discussed in several meetings leading to production off maqquettes. Then made a trip to a stone mine to identify boulder that could fit the design. transported the stone to site. it was weighing 18 tonnes. Used A crane to hoist it on to the plinth. Worked on site for four months with my two assistants to completion.

Additional Information

It had become an integral part of the community for commemorative photography to visitors who visit the academy and the chapel.
