Overview
An art glass installation consisting of mouth-blown sheet glass with applied vitreous paints and laminated to mirror. Wrapping around four walls, the work features 2,600 tiles. Dimensions: 10′h x 160′w.
Goals
HOK Architects asked Paul Housberg to design a cornerstone piece that reflects the natural environment of the new CalSTRS (California State Teachers’ Retirement System) Headquarters in West Sacramento, CA. The building is located at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers.
Process
Paul collaborated with Derix Glasstudios to erect a "box of water" made entirely of hand-painted, mouth-blown glass tiles. These tiles, which wrap around four walls, reflect ambient light and movement, just as the surfaces of the nearby rivers do.
