Overview
By way of thousands of segments of chain precisely arranged in a single gesture that cuts through the entry hall, Breath Catcher is a monumental art installation suggestive of a bream of brightly colored light. It actively undulates in the wind while its colors transform with changing lighting conditions and the movement of the viewer.
Dimensions: 18′ x 20′ x 131′ across three levels
Materials: stainless steel ball-chain, enamel paint
Goals
The work is part of a series of works the artists call “Suspensions.” A suspension is a heterogeneous fluid or gas with solid particles more or less evenly dispersed. While the environment is interspersed with the metallic chains, one’s comprehension of the work is also constructed from the negative space between the chains: the visitor’s view extends through the chains to the ceiling above and environment outside the building.
