Goals

Jorge has been studying the interaction between sculpture and the performing arts for years, Jorge Blanco's project "Bravo was designed specifically for the City of Sarasota's Ringling and Orange Avenues roundabout, its inspiration was the vibrant arts scene of the City of Sarasota. The goal was to create a public artwork that would not interfere with the drivers' view of other vehicles while providing a beautiful and joyful experience.

Process

The city of Sarasota asked 160 artists to create a site specific project for a specific roundabout. Jorge Blanco was one of three artists selected to provide a maquette. Jorge designed the work specifically for the location, thinking of the idea he wanted to present and for the drivers maximum visibility when using the roundabout. it began as a rough sketch and a carefully fabricated maquette was presented to the City's public art committee, winning the competition. The City of Sarasota provided the security and closure of the intersection for the installation of the work.
