Overview
This mural was part of the “Gabba Alley Project” in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles by curator and gallerist Jason Ostro who put together this project with many artists from all over the globe. The mural is approximately 20 meters wide and 5 meters high and has been painted with spray cans. This project was honoured by a Letter of Appreciation by the City of Los Angeles.
Goals
The goal was the social aspect of bringing colour and art to this specific neighbourhood and its alleys. The artists were free to pitch any creative ideas that are neighbourhood friendly; no religious, political and graphic sexual content.
Process
The gallerist Jason Ostro took care of the communication between the landlord and me and organised all material needed including a portable lift. The mural was then painted during 4 days.
Additional Information
The name of the artwork was inspired by my "Birdman Junior" artwork I did at my stepsisters restaurant backyard in Switzerland before I came to Los Angeles. It was like presenting the growth of my roots coming from a small village entering Los Angeles and having the opportunity to "fly". Acknowledging where I come from.
