Overview
“Bello Fiori” was commissioned by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan as an exciting addition to their newly constructed main lobby. The glass artwork fills a stone wall behind the main information desk, covering a space of 13′ W x 16′ H x 32″ D created using over 40 pieces of hand-blown glass pieces in a variety of sizes and shapes.
Goals
The goals of the clients included commissioning a sculpture that would complement their faith-based healing environment and enhance the patient's journey toward wellness. When patients, family members, and hospital staff enter the hospital, they are greeted with an uplifting array of colors and shapes. April created a bright and beautiful work of art that radiates hope and positivity - perfect for a place that strives to improve people's lives.
Process
April Wagner proposed a sculpture that would utilize various free-formed glass pieces to capture a sense of volume and space and to create a feeling of life and motion. The vibrant jewel-toned colors sparkle in the brightly lit lobby, inviting patients, family members, and visitors to the hospital. The various shapes layer on top of each other, protruding at different distances from the wall, to create the feeling of an undulating field.
