Overview
This was a public art competition to select an artist who would design, fabricate and install an original public artwork at the newly expanded Bert Church Live Theatre in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada. The work was expected to be lively, accessible, eye catching and to reflect the dynamic community theatre activities within. It occupies 60 square feet of the lobby and exterior entrance wall.
Goals
It was important to the stakeholders of the newly expanded community theatre that a fitting piece of public art be commissioned It was intended that the installation draw community members to the theatre, to speak to the activities of the theatre and to seamlessly integrate and connect the interior and exterior spaces.
Process
City oficials, community members, theatre staff, and arts groups were part of the process from the issuance of the RFP to the unveiling celebration and lecture by the artist.
