Overview
Fifty-five encaustic paintings 10’x 48’ permanently installed in the Cambria Heights Branch Library, Cambria Heights, NY. Commissioned by NYC’s Department of Cultural Affairs Percent For Art Program, The Queens Borough Public Library, and NYC’s Department of Design and Construction.
Goals
A mural sized installation consisting of 55 encaustic painted panels gathered together, cohering, and united through affinities of pattern, color, shape, and subject. Each abstract section of this work has been inspired by a variety of sources: game boards; Aboriginal dream painting; the African-American quilts of Gees Bend; labyrinths; and butterfly designs. These combinations of traditions, cultures, and influences find individual expression in this work.
